Why does a face looking up always come out flat when you draw it? Most of the time it's not the eyes or the nose. It's that the lines you learned for a front view don't bend, and from down here every one of them has to. In this video I draw this guy from a blank page with the Loomis method, camera under the chin. The circle, the center line, the brow line that turns into a ring, the side of the head you can barely see, and the part nobody warns you about: from below the chin isn't a line, it's a box. Then I hold the drawing against the photo to check the proportions before I touch a single feature, and finish the nose, lips, ears, hair and eyes the way I actually draw them.
