Ukraine crippled Russia’s Black Sea Fleet without building a traditional navy of its own. In this video, I break down how Russia began the war with overwhelming naval dominance in the Black Sea, using Crimea and Sevastopol as the center of its maritime power, only for Ukraine to steadily push the fleet back with coastal missiles, naval drones, intelligence, precision strikes, and geography. From the sinking of the Moskva to repeated attacks on Sevastopol, landing ship losses, the retreat toward Novorossiysk, and the collapse of Russia’s amphibious threat against Odesa, Ukraine showed that a fleet can be functionally defeated without being destroyed outright.
