Winds reached up to 150km/h as Typhoon Dolphin made landfall in eastern China Sunday afternoon local time. It was the most powerful cyclone to hit China this year and weather forecasters cautioned ahead of the storm that up to 500mm of rain could fall. The government has warned of landslides and flooding. More than one million people evacuated their homes in the east, but City University of Hong Kong scientist Johnny Chan says that’s a regular occurrence for storms like these.
