B.C. residents are grappling with yet another year of summer wildfires, prompting a province-wide state of emergency and forcing thousands to evacuate their homes. The Bald Eagle fire erupted Friday between Penticton and Kelowna and is one of the worst wildfires in the province, with crews calling it “explosive.” Smoky skies have helped firefighting efforts, but the lack of rain and high temperatures in the forecast are expected to increase fire activity. The fire is currently mapped at more than 13,000 hectares, and that range is expected to increase. Global’s Victoria Femia is in West Kelowna with the latest, just kilometres from the fire.
