Its story can’t focus on any one character or narrative through line. It can’t seem to nail down the rules of its own world, and what the hell is up with the spaceman robot with the suit jacket. While its story is a room temperature goulash of garbage, its art is top shelf. Mike Allred kills it like he always does, and the excellences of the art juxtaposed against the dreadfulness of the story makes for a book that is going to confuse your pallet. Black Magick is the best new series of the week. A dark nior crime drama set in a world of hidden Wiccan magic. This first issue does an excellent job establishing a world with and clear and deep hidden history. Howling Commandos is a book without a beating heat. Its noble mission statement of making an Avengers team out various monster from corners of Marvel history is under executed in every way. Characters are cardboard in nature, the action is boring and the humor is hammy and predictable. I want to like this. I want this to be a fun ride, but what is here is drab, dull and empty.
