However, it is a bit too excited to get all of these ideas out to its reader. The pacing is all over the place. There are stretches where each page takes place in a different location and seems to contain an entirely different train of thought. The Clean Room has a solid core to its story, but it doesn’t seem to have the confidence to let that story play out at its own pace. Justice League is the coolest book on the rack this week. Big action, and awesome twists are woven into a story that sees our favorite heroes elevated to the level of gods. But as badass as it is to take in all the glossy action this book just feels sort of soulless. The idea of god like power corrupting as it enlightens sits right at the center of this tale yet it goes completely unexplored. This issue is also void of any true character moments partly because of the overabundance of soliloquizing and attention being divided between too many characters. It’s fun and slick but with a little more care it could have been great. Nick Spencer’s Ant-Man has made a habit of basing each issue around deconstructing a different superhero troupe. This issue dives into the absurdity behind the vindictive behavior of supervillains. By taking the mercenary behavior of these characters and framing them within the relatable idea of a monetized app, the relationship between hero and low level villain is made to look nearly psychotic. The humor and commentary in this series continues to be some of the best in comics. Sunflower is touching and fun in moments but it is ultimately too packed with revenge tale clichés to be worth the reader’s time. Weirdworld is dumb but beautiful fun. The set ups for its fight scenes are contrived and empty headed, its story lacks payoff and has no depth. But screw it. It is so much fun and so freaking pretty it is a must read.
