Student Body Officer isn't deterred by her wheelchair. (KUTV) A Riverton High School student made history at her school and in the Jordan School District after she became the first student body officer in a wheelchair. Kendra is a girl with many talents, she plays wheelchair rugby and she works to inspire other kids with disabilities. But it's her attitude that has caught the attention of fellow Silver Wolves. She is the first wheelchair bound student to be elected as a student body officer at Riverton High and within the Jordan School District, "I really wanted to give back to the school and help others see that being in a wheelchair is not a bad thing." Kendra said of her accomplishment. Kendra hasn't always been paralyzed from the chest down; three years ago she was in a freak accident while sitting on a hammock with three friends. In a split second Kendra's life forever changed, at that point she figured she had two options; she could be angry or make the best of it. "You can be in the wheelchair and still be happy and keep living your life, or you can be in a wheelchair and be sad about it, either way you are still in a wheelchair." There was one act of kindness that Kendra did that really caught the attention of the student body here. She gave up her crown as prom queen to a special needs student; she said that student needed it more than her. In an effort to make Kendra happy the entire school is trying to get votes for her to win a wheelchair van in a national contest, so she can have some independence.
