Creating a new flower bed by cutting into your lawn might seem like a daunting task but it’s actually pretty straightforward. In this video I show you how to create a new border from scratch. Using the new seating area as I’m creating in our YouTube garden as an example, I show you how to use a half moon iron to cut a simple shape and then how to use a spade to remove the top level of turf. I then create a new flower bed by adding organic matter and forking it in with the existing soil. I then add a mix of shrubs and summer perennials to create a wraparound effect. The addition of two very comfy seats completes the look.
