Currently Playing: The B-29 Turret System: An Expensive, Effective Mechanical Masterpiece

The B-29 is a beautiful aircraft. It was years ahead of anything else when it was first deployed in 1944. Yet it is also responsible for more civilian casualties than any other aircraft before or since. In addition, it killed an unexpectedly high number of its own crew. It was at the forefront of the technological superiority the US had built up by the end of WW2. And nothing is more symbolic of that superiority than the fire control system. Unique for the time, and fiendishly complex. Yet within just a few years it was already obsolete. 3D animation by Artem Tatarchenko: https://www.instagram.com/artem.iskustvo/ https://www.youtube.com/@Artem.Kak.Art./videos Thanks to @frenchfrey8655 for the suggestion. I have not listened to that and it is not really the kind of thing I would use as a source anyway.
