Rather than following the usual indie-folk formulas of the time, the Canadian band built a sound of its own, where flawless vocal harmonies, unexpected shifts in rhythm, and instrumentation that is both delicate and powerful coexist. What makes Dark Eyes special is its ability to move constantly between calm and tension. Each song seems to unfold organically, beginning with apparent simplicity and ending in intricate arrangements where guitars, percussion, pianos, and voices intertwine with surprising ease. Tracks such as Full Circle, Call Me in the Afternoon, She Wants to Know, and Need It showcase a band with an unusual level of maturity for a debut album. There are influences from folk, alternative rock, and even art rock, yet the result never feels derivative. Lejos de seguir las fórmulas habituales del indie folk de la época, la banda canadiense construyó un sonido propio donde conviven armonías vocales impecables, cambios de ritmo inesperados y una instrumentación tan delicada como poderosa.
