Thanks everybody for the explanations.) It allows crankcase gases to go back to the intake, but won't allow intake air to go to the crankcase, in other words, it acts as a check valve. But also, since this engine has a turbo on it, the intake generates significant suction and would potentially draw oil from the crankcase. So the valve prevents too much suction on the crankcase and won't allow it to consume the engine oil.
