Messages are based on existing interface operations, rather than being manually entered, which adds rigor and traceability to the model. Stephen and Scott discuss how to include components with provided interfaces in a sequence diagram. Stephen exposes the interface operation, making them available as the definition of a message in the sequence diagram. Stephen then adds an actor from the use case model, representing the initiation of the sequence of messages. He also adds lifecycle messages to create and destroy a class that models the reservation record.
