This video covers Chapter 9 part B: Cellular Respiration and Fermentation. These sections explain how oxidative phosphorylation produces most of the ATP in cellular respiration through the electron transport chain and chemiosmosis. Electrons from NADH and FADH₂ move through protein complexes in the inner mitochondrial membrane, releasing energy that pumps protons and creates a proton gradient. This gradient drives ATP synthase to make ATP. The chapter then describes fermentation and anaerobic respiration, showing how cells can regenerate NAD⁺ and continue glycolysis when oxygen is absent, producing less ATP. Finally, it explains how glycolysis and the citric acid cycle connect to other metabolic pathways, allowing cells to use carbohydrates, fats, and proteins as fuel and to supply intermediates for biosynthesis.
