Strength, Muscle & Physical Health

Muscle is one of the most powerful and most underestimated predictors of long-term health. Beyond appearance or athletic performance, skeletal muscle plays a direct role in metabolic function, insulin sensitivity, cardiovascular health, cognitive protection, and lifespan. This playlist covers the science of muscle mass and strength — how they decline with age, why that decline matters clinically, and the evidence-based strategies for building and preserving them throughout life. Topics include resistance training, VO2 max, zone 2 cardio, visceral fat, body composition, and the physiological relationship between physical fitness and longevity.

Currently Playing: The Truth About Dr Alex Wibberley

Is Dr Alex a real doctor? Is Dr Alex AI? Is Dr Alex receiving funding from America to make his videos? These are just some of the whacky questions I've received lately. I take an enormous amount of care to ensure everything I say in these videos is as honest and evidence-based as I can make it, so this one is a bit different to my usual videos. Alongside the whacky ones, I've also had loads and loads of genuine questions about how I actually make these videos. How I manage to put out so many of them, what microphone I use, why my voice sounds the way it does, why there are odd little glitches sometimes, and whether I read from a teleprompter. So rather than answering them all one by one in the comments, I thought I'd just film the lot in one go, on my phone, sat in the studio, and show you exactly how it all works. It's not my usual polished video and that's completely on purpose. You'll see the room I film in, you'll see the horse stables next to where I film, the wall I turned into one giant softbox, the microphones, the software, all of it. And you'll get the honest answers, including the fact that yes, I absolutely do use a teleprompter, and no, I don't have a production team writing my scripts for me. If any of this is useful to anyone else who wants to start putting good free information out there for people, then take whatever you find useful and run with it. There's nothing secret in here, and the world could do with a lot more healthcare professionals talking about prevention. The kit and software people always ask about: Camera: Sony ZV-E1 Microphones: Rode NTG3 (and previously Shure SM7B) with the Zoom F3. Audio: Adobe Audition Video editing: DaVinci Resolve and CapCut Short form clips: Opus Clip, which I used early on, though I've since deleted all of those shorts and no longer use this software. And if there's anything I haven't covered in this one, stick it in the comments and I'll try and get to it.
