The waterfall room lets you unlock the more religeous and risky part of the game like the dungeon. Once you pick up that cross, 2 new areas will appear on the map: a church and a graveyard. Though you can't access them yet since it takes a day to be "fully constructed", 1 of the 7 priest villagers in the game will now live on your island who you can interact with while you wait. They'll tell you about the new stuff you can do, or just learn about christianity too I suppose. Normally you'd have to help out the church enough to unlock the dungeon... though as far as im aware, the game doesnt seem to stop you if find a way to get inside early. NOTE: THIS IS FANMADE. so it's only a fan interpretation.
