I'd like to break this vague character I've been playing into for these descriptions to voice my confusion about this entire thing. These past few months I’ve been obsessively scrounging up as much info as I can and it's only left me more and more confused. There was more than one person behind this stuff, it’s an entire community of people doing one big inside joke and it actually kinda weirds me out how nobody’s ever talked about it. I personally thought the “nightly visitor” was some kind of “cosmic entity” character, but these people kinda just mention it like it was a feature. Like, “yeah there’s just a part of the game where you can die, also there’s an evil monster that kills people.” It’s not just this one thing either, it’d make sense if this was just a weird inside joke that didn’t take off, but it’s like they’re playing an entirely different game. I mean like in depth, pages long, strategy guides on shit like "waterfall dungeon level 5", "halloween furniture guide", "successful villager prayers", "how to escape the visitor". There’s just countless discussions about these features that don’t exist, and nobody calls them out. It’s really late for me and I’ll probably share more tomorrow when my head’s on straight.
