In this hand, Poker Hall of Famer Patrik Antonius and Andy Ni get involved in a massive pot after Ni fires every street with an overpair. Antonius, holding a mystery hand, calls the entire way before putting Ni to the test for all of his stack on the river. Will Ni make the call with pocket kings, and is Antonius bluffing or going for value? Ultimately this will prove why Patrik Antonius is better than you think! When playing poker tournaments or cash games, it is important to protect your checking range. This means that when you check on the flop, turn, or even the river as the first player to act, it should not always indicate that you hold a weak or medium-strength hand. You should also have very strong hands, including the nuts, in your checking range. Doing this prevents your opponents from exploiting you by betting every time you check. By mixing in strong hands when you check, you keep your overall poker strategy balanced and harder to play against. Triton Poker was founded in 2015 by Paul Phua and Richard Yong; their aim was to attract a healthy mixture of recreational poker players and seasoned poker professionals. Some of the most famous poker players to have appeared at Triton events have been Phil Ivey ‘RaiseOnce’, Tom Dwan ‘Durrr’, Patrick Antonius ‘The Finn’, Michael Addamo ‘imluckbox’, Chris Brewer, Jason Koon ‘JAKoon1985’, Tony G, Dan Cates ‘Jungleman’, Doug Polk ‘WCGRider’, Stephen Chidwick ‘stevie444’, Linus Loeliger ‘LLinusLLove’, Isaac Haxton ‘philivey2694’, Mikita Badziakouski ‘fish2013’, Timofey Kuznetsov ‘Trueteller’ and many more. This was a special Triton Poker Invitational Cash Game held at the Maestral Resort & Casino - Budva, Montenegro; it spanned over seven days from August 4 - 10, 2024 and featured players such as Phil Ivey ‘The Tiger Woods of Poker’ ‘RaiseOnce’, Paul Phua, Daniel Cates ‘Jungleman, Andy Ni, Tan Xuan, Esti Wang, Elton Tsang, Handz, Patrik Antonius ‘The Finn’, Adrian Mateos ‘Amadi_017, Tony G, Rob Yong, Linus Loeliger ‘LLinusLLove’, Aaron Zang, Brian Kim, Joe Zou, Elizabeth Chen, Mikhail Petrov, Danny Tang and Ferdinand Putra. 🔍 Preflop: With a $4,000 straddle on, Handz limps in from the cutoff with AJ of hearts before Andy Ni decides to raise to $20,000 from the big blind holding pocket kings. Patrik Antonius calls from the under the gun straddle with T4 of hearts and Handz comes along with what is already 40% of a royal flush. 💸 Flop - Qc 7d 7h: Ni’s overpair is still the best hand and he chooses to fire a continuation bet of $27,000. Antonius, with just ten-high and a backdoor flush draw, floats in position. Handz lays down his ace-high and the two poker players head to the turn. 💣 Turn - 5h: The five of hearts on the turn doesn’t slow Ni down as he fires out a second barrel of $77,000 with his pair of kings. Having picked up a backdoor flush draw, Antonius makes the call. 🌊 River - 4c: A four of clubs completes the runout and Ni unloads the clip by firing a third and final barrel of $265,000. Antonius bricked his backdoor flush draw and is left with just ten-high. However, he clearly didn’t call the flop to just give up when he missed, as he opts to represent a strong hand like trips or a full house by raising to $695,000, putting Ni all-in. Will Antonius get this crazy bluff through, or will Ni sniff it out and make the correct call and win a pot worth over $1,000,000.
