This lecture concludes my brief exposition of C.S. Lewis's The Discarded Image. I turn to his study of the seven liberal arts and how they reflect the so-called medieval synthesis of knowledge and faith. I particularly look at the understanding of intellect and reason famously inverted by Immanuel Kant, which perhaps ought to be given renewed scrutiny. I conclude with a discussion of our own 'worldview' which we rather absurdly regard as transparent and without prejudice, even if though can be seen through various artistic representations. Its most malign effect is to efface the human person from the realm of knowledge. This key change takes place in a series of shifts throughout the Enlightenment, but its final iteration comes in the biological theory of evolution, which merely enunciates the evolutionary perspective assumed throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The machine becomes proof positive of what Lewis elsewhere calls 'the abolition of man.' ❤️ If you find my channel helpful, become a channel member: www.youtube.com/c/DrScottMasson ❤️ Subscribe to my Substack: https://drscottmasson.substack.com/ ❤️ Support my channel and assist me in providing better content: https://www.paypal.com/donate/?token=FZN9nCjKxWQNUnF_jsASfpjiVyRpj1H_mdGvxmYj9wIO-ZgrxM5vR1V-nTy3kKygP1gh10&fromUL=true&country.x=CA&locale.x=en_US/?token=FZN9nCjKxWQNUnF_jsASfpjiVyRpj1H_mdGvxmYj9wIO-ZgrxM5vR1V-nTy3kKygP1gh10&fromUL=true&country.x=CA&locale.x=en_US
