This call can only be made by the Replay Official on a force out and when an out call is overturned (or would otherwise be overturned) to a safe call. This effectively closes the loophole of a time play wherein a runner runs through second base to beat the through, removing the force and buying time for a leading runner to score prior to the third out. The 2015 change states that the Replay Official may now deem the runner at 2B to have abandoned their effort to run the bases, thus moving the time play up to the moment the trailing runner passes the base.
