A playthrough of Enix's 1996 role-playing game for the Super Famicom, Dragon Quest III (ドラゴンクエストIII そして伝説へ…). Since this version of the game was only released in Japan, I used a fan-made translation patch in this video. The second part, showing the rest of the game and the post-game content, can be found at https://youtu.be/vxaq1fn7tUs Dragon Quest III, the final entry of the NES's Erdrick trilogy, is an all-time great. Though the original 1988 release (https://youtu.be/KXq6KwzG8iQ) turns thirty-six years old next month, it is still regarded as one of the best games in the series and a cornerstone of the JRPG genre. This SNES title is a complete 16-bit remake, similar to what Enix did with the first two games (https://youtu.be/qUWFKwDJb4Y and https://youtu.be/yh1zZ6qV-54), but it goes a few steps further. The leap in the quality of the visuals is massive - the art here is easily on par with games like Final Fantasy III and Chrono Trigger - and there's a lot of new content introduced to better flesh things out. The new personality system, the mini medal prizes, and the post-game content are all good reasons to jump back in and experience it all again. The Game Boy Color version, which saw an official English release back in 2001, and the HD-2D remake that releases today are both largely based on this SNES remake, so it seemed like the perfect opportunity to show it off.
