The Five Rules of Gregg Shorthand Stroke Joining After learning the shorthand characters, the next major step is understanding how outlines are formed naturally and efficiently. This lesson covers the foundational joining principles that govern Gregg shorthand motion: 1. Circles with Curved Strokes: If a circle is joined at the beginning or end of a curved stroke, the circle is placed inside the curve 2. Circles with Straight Strokes: if a circle is joined at the beginning or end of a curved stroke, the circle is written with right motion. 3A. Circles Between Strokes: Where consonants meet to form an angle or point, the circle is written on the outside of the angle 3B. When straight strokes join curves without forming an angle, or when two curves of the same motion join smoothly, the circle is placed inside the curve 4. Circles between straight strokes in the same direction are written with right motion 5. Circles Between opposite curves, are turned back on the first curve These rules are what give Gregg its flowing, rhythmic writing style and allow writers to achieve extraordinary speed without sacrificing readability. The goal is developing instinctive motion rather than rote memorization. Over time, the correct joins begin to feel obvious. #Gregg #GreggShorthand #Writing #HandwritingPractice #AnalogLearning #Study #Language #WritingCommunity #VintageSkills #RapidWriting
