This lesson completes the core consonant alphabet of Gregg shorthand by showing how nearly every sound comes from a simple, logical system of shapes, motion, and size. You’ll learn how the following sounds are written and why they look the way they do: R / L — bottom half of the ellipse, written with left motion K / G — top half of the ellipse, written with right motion N / M — straight forward strokes T / D — straight strokes written forward and upward H — expressed with a dot placed over the vowel Th — a softened T stroke, written in either direction for smooth outlines You’ll see how Gregg strokes are distinguished by: - Sound (where the letter is formed in the mouth, e.g., velar sounds like K and G) - Size (short vs long strokes to differentiate meaning) - Direction (left motion, right motion, forward, or upward) By the end of this lesson, the alphabet stops feeling like memorization and starts feeling engineered. You’ll understand how form follows function, and why Gregg shorthand is fast, compact, and readable. This lesson prepares you to begin combining strokes into real outlines. Topics covered: Gregg shorthand alphabet, shorthand consonants, R L K G shorthand, Gregg stroke direction, shorthand phonetics, learning Gregg shorthand, shorthand writing system.
