While traveling Japan on my 50cc moped, I started dreaming about van life. During that long journey, I researched and rented different vans, saving little by little — and with the support from Nomad-Sans around the world, the dream started to become real. When the moped journey ended, I finally bought a used van and began turning it into my new home. Living in Tokyo is expensive… or at least that’s what people think. Today I filmed a completely normal day living in my van in Tokyo and tracked every expense. Parking, food, small daily costs — nothing dramatic, nothing staged. Just a real day. It ended up costing me about $12. But is it really worth it? In this video I also compare the cost of van life to staying in an internet cafe in Tokyo. The numbers are surprising, but money isn’t the only thing that matters. This is just my real life.
