This is an official "Donald P. Borchers Production," presented by my (now defunct) company, Planet Productions Corp. It's the second movie I made for Paul Almond and the 17th movie I made for Roger Burlage, both at (now defunct) LIVE Entertainment. County locations only required a film permit, no fee. So, this was shot 100% on free L.A. County locations. Kudos to director Paolo Mazzucato for his achievement. VFX company bids were too expensive, so I bought computers and set up my own shop. It's New Years Day, 2065, at an Off-World space station penal colony. Inside the remote space prison we meet a group of the most dangerous criminals ever, too violent to be kept on earth, so they have been shipped out to space. After a daring prison break, the life sentenced escaped convicts stow away on a trash pod headed to a garbage landfill at the Moonbase Waste Disposal Plant. They plan to hijack the Moonbase and then gain passage back to earth. Moonbase Commander John Russell (Scott Plank) gets a message about the incoming cargo. Dump worker Deckert (Kurt Fuller) is upset because the crew was supposed to be off today. He's in the kitchen complaining before the crew suits up to prepare the surface for the cargo. The garbage shuttle from the prison, carrying the most dangerous criminals in the universe, arrives on the Moon. They land and take over the base. They discover a horrifying, mysterious, and deadly secret. Hidden beneath the lunar surface lies an arsenal of nuclear warheads. The inmates see this as their passport home to earth. Russell launches a desperate fight to save his crew from a force capable of laying waste to an entire planet. Main bad guy, and intense cold-blooded convict, Stark (Robert O'Reilley, StarTrek's Klingon "Gow-ron"), is desperate to highjack his way back to earth. His main squeeze, the sultry Mina (Gretchen Palmer) is just as psycho. The film swings into action mode. The convicts make their way into the base. John Russell and his disgruntled dump employees are taken hostage. The convicts explain that they are just staying until the next shuttle from earth arrives so that they can escape. Surprised to find no shuttle to Earth, Russell informs Stark about the next Shuttle coming for inspection. Stark wants to steal the shuttle, but it's heavily armed with military guards. On the arriving Shuttle is the "inspection" team, which is headed by Lt. Caldecott (Billy Maddox) and Russell's old flame Dana Morgan (Jocelyn Seagrave). There's a rekindled romance between two ex-lovers. Caldecott and Morgan alert Russell that Stark and his band are escaped convicts. A confrontation ensues, and after an encounter with the newly arrive team of soldiers, the criminals flee. They are joined in their hiding place by Deckert, who wants to return to Earth; Deckert divulges Caldecott's real mission to the criminals: to recover ultra-deadly--and very valuable--nuclear warheads hidden there. Dana, Russell, and his coworker Will (Stack Pierce) contact a rescue team. The prison sends a ship to pick up the prisoners, but Deckert messes with the tractor beam and causes the ship to crash. The prisoners defeat Caldecott's men, get the warheads, and Russell is captured. While forming a plan, Will reveals to Dana that Russell once took the fall for her during an ecological disaster. In the ensuing melee, Will is killed, but Russell and Dana escape to the shuttle where they must wait for the ship to power up. Stark threatens to blow up the Moonbase if he can't get off. Deckert comes to the realization that Stark is going to kill him, so he has a change of heart and flips the power switch on for the navigational system on the shuttle so the gang can all escape, just as Stark shoots him. Stark then sets the warheads to go off and chases Russell, who must open the escape doors. Russell tricks Stark using a hologram of himself and sneaks onto the shuttle. The warheads blow and the base disappears as the shuttle escapes and Russell and Dana head off into orbit. A 1997 American Sci-Fi action thriller B-movie directed by Paolo Mazzucato, produced by Donald P. Borchers, screenplay by Brian DiMuccio & Dino Vindeni, story by DiMuccio & Vindeni and Mazzucato, cinematography by Jesse Weathington, starring Scott Plank, Jocelyn Seagrave, Robert O'Reilly, Kurt Fuller, Randy Vasquez, Gretchen Palmer, Billy Maddox, John Philbin, George 'Buck' Flower, and Andre Rosey Brown. Final film of Stack Pierce. Samantha Phillips appears as the "Gorgeous Woman" dream girl in a hologram scene where she performs to Type O Negative's song "Christian Woman". The space prison guards wear East German army uniforms and rank insignia. A B-movie about self-sacrifice and redemption, disguised as a low-budget sci-fi shoot-em-up with all the genre elements: Stock sci-fi characters, government conspiracy, doomsday scenario, and a rekindled romance between two ex-lovers. In space! It's a good time despite its flaws and the action is swift.
