How can we prove that pi is an irrational number? The simplest proof (requiring only some basic calculus) was given by a mathematician named Ivan Niven in 1947. A slightly modified version of his proof is given in this video. Earlier proofs were given by Lambert and Hermite, and Mathologer has a couple of nice videos on those. Mind Your Decisions (Presh Talwalkar) also has a nice video on Niven's proof, but I will be filling in more of the details.
