Currently Playing: How to digitise a VHS tape

"Hey David M. Green from VHS Revue, how do you digitise a VHS tape?" Well this is how I do it. It's not the only way to do it, but it works for me... I currently use a Sharp VC-H725 VCR connected via RCA cables (red, white, yellow) to a Panasonic DMR-XW440 DVD/DVR circa 2013. Press play on the VCR and press record on the DVR, recording directly to the unit's hard drive. When the tape is finished, press stop and give the recording a name. This model Panasonic DVR has Internet capability so I can access the hard drive from my laptop over Wi-Fi. Just copy the file over and there ya go. By default it saves it as an .mpeg in standard definition PAL 720x576 at 25 frames per second and it maintains the interlacing. Once it's on a computer you can edit it, upscale it using software, post it online, whatever. If it's important, I recommend making a few copies and storing them on multiple external hard drives and in the cloud. See some of the stuff I've found on VHS.
