Currently Playing: Brazil: Mothers Against Police Violence | ARTE.tv Documentary

Around 6,000 people are killed by the police in Brazil every year, the majority of whom are young black men from poor neighbourhoods. In Rio de Janeiro, where gangs and drug traffickers control nearly a third of the city, the police are deployed like a military force in the favelas, causing between 700 and 900 deaths a year. Mothers of the victims are increasingly demanding justice.
