Its just a bunch of resin impregnated hardwood veneers squished together. The adiophiles out there seem to be obsessed with it for its acoustic dampening properties and build the most ridiculous things out of it to eliminate any sort of resonance. For example, people use it to build pcbs (it had good dielectric properties too), record player carts, plates, speaker cabinets, all sorts of stands, and the list goes on… I wasnt able to source that material in the US, so I found something similar and hit up Sam from HHG Drums to see if he could whip up a snare drum out of it for me. I looks super cool and sounds rad too! No matter how I tuned it, it sounded great. Definitely a great all around snare and can see myself using for basically any genre.
