Currently Playing: Wild Airplane Camping in NAMIBIA

After reaching Cape Town in Part 2, Chels and I are ready to get back in the air, catch up with our friends, and point the airplanes toward Namibia. First, we have to retrieve the keys I locked in the car... We cross the mountains out of Stellenbosch, drop into Tankwa Padstal for lunch, and fly into a desert gathering at the Tankwa Tented Camp. A little formation flying, a night of brandy and karaoke with Riaan, and a warm welcome at Matt’s farm make for a memorable farewell to South Africa. Then it’s time for fuel, passports, and a border crossing that turns out to require a little more preparation than we realized. As a flight of four airplanes, we press into Namibia, explore Fish River Canyon from the ground and the air, and follow James toward a remote desert campsite—with an off-airport landing between us and a night under the African stars. Along the way, the landscapes get bigger, the familiar comforts get farther away, and the moments after shutdown become every bit as memorable as the flying.
