Currently Playing: PIP-II | Installing the first gear of the new linac

From past breakthroughs to future frontiers! ✨ 70 years after the first neutrino detection, we're laying the groundwork for tomorrow's cosmic discoveries. Recently, the first piece of our new linear accelerator’s beamline was moved into the accelerator tunnel! This radio-frequency quadrupole — designed and built by our partners at Berkeley Lab — will serve as the "first gear" of the upgraded Fermilab accelerator complex. The Proton Improvement Plan II, or PIP-II, is an essential enhancement to the Fermilab Accelerator Complex, powering the world’s most intense neutrino beam for the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment. #Neutrino70 #Fermilab #DUNEscience #ParticlePhysics #FutureOfPhysics
