Mojo is a new programming language designed to combine the ease of Python with the speed of languages like C++ and Rust — built specifically for AI development, from research to production. It compiles to native code, runs on CPUs and GPUs, and lets developers write high-performance AI systems without leaving a Python-like syntax. Mojo was created by Chris Lattner, a veteran programming language and compiler engineer best known for creating Swift at Apple and LLVM, the compiler infrastructure that underpins much of the modern software industry. Lattner also led major engineering efforts at Tesla and Google before co-founding Modular in 2022, the company behind Mojo, where he now serves as CEO.
