Commander Elian had crossed six billion miles to reach the silent moon of Nareth. Its surface was a desert of silver dust and black stone, untouched by wind or rain. The mission was simple: map the ruins detected beneath the ice. Inside a cavern lit by the pale glow of his helmet, Elian found a statue. It stood twice his height, carved from a crystal that seemed to hold starlight within it. The figure had no wings, yet it felt angelic—its face serene, its hands open as if offering both blessing and surrender. Around its feet were symbols older than any language humanity had discovered. Elian raised his scanner. The device flickered and died. For a moment, the moon became perfectly still. Then a voice—not heard through his ears, but somewhere behind his thoughts—whispered: “Traveler, why do you cross the darkness?” Elian swallowed. “To learn what is out here.” The crystal figure seemed almost alive in the dim light. “And what have you learned?” He looked back through the cavern entrance. Far beyond the moon’s horizon, Earth hung in the void—a tiny blue flame. “That the universe is vast,” he said. The voice answered gently: “The universe is vast so that the heart may become humble.” Elian felt the weight of every mile he had traveled, every calculation, every ambition that had carried him here. Before the statue, all of it seemed small and precious at once. “Are you a god?” he asked. “I am a reminder,” the voice replied. “That even among stars, a soul is not measured by distance traveled, but by wonder kept alive.” The cavern fell silent. Elian’s scanner rebooted, humming softly as if nothing had happened. When he turned to leave, he noticed one final thing: a thin layer of moon dust covered the floor everywhere except at the statue’s feet, where the crystal shone untouched. Back aboard his ship, Elian filed no report about voices or miracles. He simply changed the mission log’s closing line. Instead of “Ruins investigated.”, he wrote: “In the farthest darkness, I found something that looked back with peace.” Please help the channel by sharing, liking, commenting and subscribing!
