School was never my thing. I was the quiet, weird kid in the back row who just wanted to be invisible. I only had one friend, and he didn't even go to my school, so I was pretty isolated. The thing is, that feeling of isolation never really left. Now, nearing my 40s, the feeling of being left behind - of falling behind the pace of the world and everyone else's expectations - is just as strong as ever. Recently, a 17-year-old girl asked me: "Don't you ever think about a family, a career? You look like you're just drifting through life." I tried to come up with a decent answer. To explain that I HAD a career, but at some point, I had to choose between it and my sanity. That I do have a plan. That music IS the plan right now. But honestly, her words hit a nerve. Because my plan for the future is about as solid as my lower back after a long day staring at a monitor. You often wish you could go back and fix what's broken. To catch up. But when you look back, you see exactly what’s on the screen right now - an empty room, heavy fog, and nobody there. No one is waiting to give you a second chance.
