Amazon’s new Fire TV Stick 4K 3rd Gen runs Vega OS — and I’ve discovered that the classic 7-click Developer Options trick still works. But there’s a surprise hiding inside: Developer Mode. Amazon’s own documentation even says Developer Mode can be used to sideload apps. So does this mean sideloading is actually back on the new Vega OS Firestick? Not quite. In this video, I show exactly what the new Developer Mode does, why Android APK files still won’t install, what .vpkg apps are, and why Vega sideloading is very different from the Downloader method Firestick users have been using for years. We’ll also look at how developers can port apps to Vega OS, why you need an Amazon Developer account and a supported Mac or Ubuntu Linux computer, and the additional app-signing restrictions Amazon is introducing. The big question is: could a completely new Vega sideloading community eventually emerge around VPKG apps?
