No calls, no messages, nothing. Just silence and the odd realisation of how thoroughly dependent modern life is on infrastructure most of us have no control over whatsoever. The services we use, the data we generate. A few hours later I was back online, but the idea for an experiment lingered. How much functionality can I reclaim while being offline and off-grid? What followed were a couple of months of discovery of fun products and dedicated communities. The end result is ATU - a tech stack surprisingly complete despite fitting inside of a briefcase. ATU features fully offline maps and navigation, local AI, knowledge repositories, document management, offline entertainment, personal data vaults, signal monitoring, decentralised long-range communications, and more.
