The first episode of the Proust Book Club devoted to a slow and close reading of "In Search of Lost Time" also known as "Remembrance of Things Past" was introductory. This second episode looks at the actual text much more directly. Paul & Stuart will finish off their discussion of the beginning of Proust's "In Search of Lost Time" - specifically, the section from Volume 1 - "Swann's Way" - which is entitled "Combray I" and ends with the famous episode of the madeleine and the vivid description of the memories it ceates in the mind of the narrator. Perhaps, for contemporary tastes, the opening section of "Remembrance of Things Past" is not the most exciting consisting largely as it does of the narrator, as a young boy, waiting for a goodnight kiss from his mother. This may explain why so many people fall at the first hurdle when it comes to reading Proust.
