Discussion and Review of Disney-Star Wars: The Acolyte

On August 19, 2024, it was published on Deadline that Star Wars The Acolyte had been cancelled internally by Disney. The show got an eight episode run on Disney+ through the summer of 2024 and cost and estimated $180 million dollars to produce. The same day the announcement of cancellation became public was the same day the official Nielsen Ratings became available to the public. Following a decline in viewership for Live Action Star Wars Disney+ programming, excluding The Mandalorian, The Acolyte's finale ranked 41% Ahsoka and more than 50% below Andor. Both Andor and Ahsoka are both viewed as underperformers for the budget behind them. To many Star Wars fans, the cancellation of the Acolyte was viewed as an amazing victory over a project that was created in bad faith and positioned to radically change the history of a franchise property that has nearly 50 years of mythos behind it. Simply, at its core, Star Wars is about good conquoring evil. The Acolyte sought to change that through a prequel rewriting history to make everyone and everything morally ambiguous and morally grey. The response to this has been legendary, as wild Disney-hyphen-Star Wars fans take to social media and absolutely lose their minds that this show, which was a financial disaster for the producer, has been cancelled. Many of these, what I would call, Shills for Disney, are citing things like racism, misogny, hate and bigotry contributed to the show's cancellation. There is not any evidence that that is true. The amount of views that each YouTube channel, for instance, gets, pale in comparison to the amount of users who are watching netflix, hulu, and disney+. The reality is that not enough people watched the show to warrant renewal. Normies, who tuned in for The Mandalorian, did not tune in for The Acolyte. Not even enough people hate-watched it, like Velma, for it to get renewed. And once you start poking holes in the emotionally charged responses of these Corporation Shills, they then need to turn to other excuses; they'll then turn to this idea, that just keeps getting brought up every other mainstream title name project or so, of Review Bombing. And it's the fault of Review Bombing that The Acolyte was cancelled. Well, that's not true either. Because Review Bombing, in the way that Corporations, Journalists, and Degenerates on X want to throw the term around, is not real. - - - Includes resources from: @SmashJT @ThatParkPlace @WDW_Pro - - - Let's Play PRETEND!
