Using C major as our example: C major = C D E F G A B Relative minor = A minor Same notes. Same key signature. The only difference is the tonal center. You’ll learn: • Why the relative minor is built from the 6th degree of the major scale • Why the I chord is major and the vi chord is minor • How A minor is really just C major with a different “home base” • How emphasizing the 6 chord changes the emotional color • How this applies directly to songwriting When you shift the tonal center from C to A, the mood changes — even though the notes stay the same.
