It's been ten long years, and still no end in sight to the debate surrounding Hideo Kojima's final contribution to 'METAL GEAR', arguably his magnum opus, "MGSV: THE PHANTOM PAIN". In this long-form essay series, join Jorin Lee of Futurasound Productions as he walks you through all the secrets still left to uncover about MGSV, with the game's many intel tapes serving as the focus. In our third entry, we cover 'Man on Fire [1], Ocelot's Briefing [2], and Afghanistan Today [1]. Along the way, we discuss Ocelot's Machiavellian actions in The Phantom Pain. 0:00 - Opening 0:38 - Part One: Man on Fire [1] 10:31 - Ocelot's Briefing [2] 48:33 - Afghanistan Today [1] 52:06 - Ending NOTE: The exact moment Ocelot first turns against Zero is of course with the project, "Les Enfants Terribles". This inadvertently began Cipher's descent into one day becoming "The Patriots". This also roughly coincides with the start of the transformation of war, the RMA (revolution in military affairs) Old Snake identifies in MGS4 which will come of age by the early 21st Century ("war has changed"). After all, the evolution of IT and genetics mirror each other, as they mirror the digitalization of war. In all three cases, we're basically talking about information networks, which can be modelled, statistically analyzed, and/or operationalized better and better the more advanced that computation power generally becomes. It's the same for BB and even Skull Face - as we'll discuss in a future episode, everything gets set into motion with Zero's fateful decision to clone Big Boss. Zero's ambition to control the world 'from the inside out', his use of the English language and the 'new kind of business' aka private proxy wars, even his decision to raise Big Boss's clones as 'legendary soldiers', all lead to the rebellions (SF, BB, Liquid Snake, Solidus (?), Liquid Ocelot) that will eventually destroy his system of AI proxies by MGS4.
