Make sure all LCACs survive the first section of the mission (the landing attempt). While getting an S-rank in Elite is easy to achieve because of the number of targets, I will recommend attempting to spawn Custos in Veteran difficulty to make things a bit easier for you. In Elite and Ace difficulties, even normal enemy pilots are better at dodging missiles, making your job in keeping your allies alive harder. At the same time, additional threats to the LCACs require quick disposal. Taking too long in dogfights or not being able to take out the ground threats quickly enough can make you lose an LCAC before you even notice it. The heavy cloud cover will significantly hinder the lock-on of your missiles which can prolong the destruction of aerial targets threatening your LCACs. The nighttime combat doesn't help either, which can easily disorient you into crashing to the ocean. Once you've managed to keep all eight LCACs alive and successfully land the shore, a cutscene will trigger where the enemy landship artillery bombards your position. The ace should appear somewhere in the southwest corner of the map.
