More complete commentaries on games, with the 'season 2' addition that the entire piece is scripted and planned for generally better quality. I played some Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom, an old city builder from the mystical Sierra era in which the genre's design grapples with insanity, eventually coming to rest here in Emperor. It's a city builder where realistically there is only One(tm) city to build, in many different situations, as the strange economy mechanics have gradually forced the game design into a corner. So I'll be ranting about that, although actually some of the key details will only be revealed in my next video, in which I play the Shang Campaign. The Xia campaign commented on here is essentially a long tutorial - although the actual game isn't especially different, so you will see it all if you watch only this one. In other words, here's the beginning of a rant session, the rest will appear next week, how inconvenient. Can Devin try to ignore how strange and unknowable the underlying mechanics are, and enjoy this otherwise charming and quaint city builder from a more civilised time?
