In this second and final commentary on Emperor Rise of the Middle Kingdom, I take on the first real campaign, with more cities to make, more piles of mud of admire, and more mind-numbing rants to rattle off like a repeating crossbow. Then I declare, without checking, that the rest of the game is more of the same, and return to the future. Did I learn to become a Zen master, at one with the game, unbothered by logistical issues and number optimisation? Perhaps a glimpse of enlightenment was had. What a game. What an era. Of all the great takeaways we can glean from this old masterpiece, we must hold one above all else: never again!
