Eight girls step off a bus to work at the Marelli family vineyards, but only seven of them were hired. Mysterious Woman #8 ain’t "no wine girl" and is sure "no dame,· but won’t answer questions about who she is or where she came from. Obviously, no one in the vineyard has seen Love Moods or Striporama or Varietease or they would have immediately recognized her as Miss Lily ST. CYR! Yup. the First Lady of Striptease is a Runaway Girl named Edella who also happens to be "the hottest personality in the entire world" Overworked and exhausted, Edella is so eager to escape the drudgery of show business that she makes herself ’disappear’ and, overnight, is gleefully enjoying the drudgery of picking grapes. Dressed in a cute little peasant outfit that never gets dirty, Edella is, of course, a knockout. So much so that vineyard owner Randy Marelli ("Tarzan" JOCK MAHONEY} quickly falls in love w/ her. Poor Edella wants to tell Randy who, he is but, before she can, Randy’s jealous girlfriend Winnie (LAURIE MITCHELL, The Queen of Outer Space) waves a newspaper headline in front of him - "Edna Missing! Wood Renowned Exotic Dancer Disappears En Route to Los Angeles!" - and tells him to get rid of her: ’We’ve got to prevent a scandal’ Even Randy’s spoiled-brat stepbrother rubs it in: "Think of all the men that have looked at her ... for just the price of admission! ’Worse, Edella’s manager ROBERT SHAYNE (The Neanderthal Man) tracks her down and demands she leave with him. Oh, Lordy, lordy, what’s an ecdysiast to do? NO, Lili can’t act - she can barely deliver her lines - but she’s always an eyeful, and it’s interesting to see this genuine goddess of burlesque appearing in a nonburley-q film. Yeah, she’s in a few others - Son of Sinbad, Josette of New Orleans, and Corman’s I, Mobster - but never strays far from her stage persona. In fact, Runaway Girl even includes a chaste version of her strip act, including a snippet of her bathtub routine. Stunt-man-turned-actor Mahoney, star of Tarzan’s Three Challenges (and Sally Fields’ stepdad), is just as stiff as St. Cyr but, hey, this is just an innocuous little potboiler, right?
