Currently Playing: The Graduation Dress (1964) Stella Stevens, Hugh O’Brian, Buddy Ebsen. Story by William Faulkner

From Vacation Playhouse comes “The Graduation Dress,” a breezy, slightly mischievous comedy drawn from a rare television story by William Faulkner. The Graduation Dress has it all—Stella Stevens fresh from her 1960 Playboy centerfold, Buddy Ebsen in a pre–The Beverly Hillbillies role, Hugh O'Brian as a smooth-talking flim-flam man—all wrapped in a story with a touch of Tobacco Road charm. Roaming the Mississippi hills of 1932, fast-talking photographer Sam Sharp makes his living snapping graduation portraits—and charming just about every girl he meets along the way. His secret weapon? A stylish city dress that turns heads, loosens smiles… and helps close the deal. But things take a turn when he meets the farmer's daughter...Laura Jerico—a barefoot country beauty with a mind of her own and her eye firmly set on that dress. What begins as a simple photo stop soon becomes a tempting proposition, as Laura weighs the promise of easy glamour against the down-to-earth values waiting back home. With sparks flying and intentions not entirely innocent, Sam may finally have met his match. Directed by Richard Irving, this 1960 television comedy blends rural charm, sly humor, and a touch of flirtation—proving that sometimes the real picture develops where you least expect it. Originally broadcast in 1960 on General Electric Theater, this presentation reflects its August 10, 1964 airing on Vacation Playhouse.
