Currently Playing: CSA “proud” of Joshua Kutryk, the 1st Canadian to fly on NASA’s Commercial Crew Program

The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) is singing the praises of astronaut Joshua Kutryk after NASA's SpaceX Crew-13 successfully launched to the International Space Station (ISS) Thursday morning. “[This is] really an exciting time for us, and particularly so because it represents the first time that a Canadian Space Agency astronaut has taken part in NASA's Commercial Crew Program… We're proud of Josh Kutryk and the hard work is that he's put into getting to this point,” CSA Director of Astronauts, Life Sciences and Space Medicine Mathieu Caron said during a post-launch press conference at the Kennedy Space Center. On Canada’s studies during the latest ISS mission, Canon said the primary focus would be health in space and “investigating the effects of microgravity on the human body and how to lessen these effects” – research he said is “particularly critical” ahead of humanity’s planned return to the moon. Asked about the future of collaboration between the two space organizations, NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman commended the CSA’s “immense expertise in robotics,” adding they were “going to be counting on [them] as part of architecture” for a future lunar base.
