In this episode, we tackle the "problem child"—Halifax engine rebuild number four. This Bristol Hercules engine has challenged our dedicated team more than any other, but it is undoubtedly one of the most important aircraft engines in Canadian aviation history. Inside this episode: We dismantle the incredibly complex front case of the Bristol Hercules engine, cross-reference rare World War II propeller parts, and use our "cadaver engine" to solve a major cylinder alignment issue. To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Bomber Command Museum of Canada, we are joined once again by Hercules engine expert Paul Hawkins from Vancouver, British Columbia. Together with Karl Kjarsgaard and Bob Jackins from the Hercules Team engineering crew, we dive deep into the incredibly complex front case of the engine—which Paul describes as looking like the inside of a "Swiss watch" due to its mass of driving gear wheels.
