The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4 Episodes 4-6 REACTION | "Taryon, My Wayward Son" | "De Rolo's Eleven" | "We Are His Blood" Syntell, Mikel-Claire, and Rekkai are back with three episodes of Season 4, covering the mid-season arc from the Darrington Estate to the Cobalt Soul vault to one of the most emotionally brutal finales this show has put together. Episode 4 — "Taryon, My Wayward Son" Vox Machina visits the Darrington Estate, and Lord Dalo makes it clear immediately that nothing Taryon has ever done was quite right, quite enough, or quite impressive. There's a deck of infinite possibilities, a mechanized armor prototype operating in the wrong hands, a unicorn that does not survive the encounter, and Grog Strongjaw delivering one of the most unexpectedly sincere eulogies in animated television. Taryon gets his moment. He earns it. And Wayne Brady hits a note. Episode 5 — "De Rolo's Eleven" Vox Machina needs a scroll from the Cobalt Soul archive. The Cobalt Soul does not want them to have it. Enter the pan flute, the multi-tiered security system, the anti-magic field that takes out the mages, Grog temporarily becoming the smartest person in the room, Percy being launched across a library, and "If happiness were a construct, I'd be elated." Also: Pike is married. She just hadn't told anyone yet. Episode 6 — "We Are His Blood" (Mid-Season Finale) The scroll reveals how the Whispered One was sealed — and how he can be killed. Then the episode gets to work. Doty, Wilhand's dragon lung, the cult's arrival in Whitestone, a moment between Vax and Percy about things that can't be undone, the blindfolded villain consolidating his hold, and Delilah's return — in service of something worse than anything they've seen from her before. This is the show letting you know the back half of the season will not be gentle. The post-reaction covers all of it: Wayne Brady as Tary being one of the most inspired casting decisions this show has made, Henry Winkler bringing real warmth to Wilhand before the episode takes him away, Andy Serkis as Gideon, Grog eulogizing the unicorn (Syntell's personal high-water mark of the batch), Rekkai catching the Cobalt Soul / Mighty Nein connection that would have slipped right past everyone, "De Rolo's Eleven" as the best of the three, the real stakes this show has built by letting death and resurrection actually compound, what this show gets right that Marvel and Star Wars keep getting wrong (it's drawing from a campaign that already finished — the story is on the paper), and whether Scanlan gets to come back.
