Season 10 — Edward IV to Henry Tudor | A Dynasty to Die For

If you want to delve deeper into the history behind each episode, subscribe and receive bonus episodes — ad free — over on https://www.patreon.com/c/thisishistory/membership -- This is a story of three brothers, one crown, and not an ounce of loyalty between them. It’s the beginning of the end for England's most storied royal dynasty, the Plantagenets. Dan Jones brings you the story of the Yorkist King, Edward IV – tall, golden, ferocious – a young king who wins his throne on the battlefield and then destabilises it in the bedroom. His secret marriage to Elizabeth Woodville, a Lancastrian widow of minor nobility, detonates the political order. The old guard revolts. The Earl of Warwick aka the Kingmaker, emerges as a lethal enemy. What follows is a sequence of betrayals so baroque they border on the operatic. Alliances invert overnight as Warwick makes daring political moves. Kings drown in malmsey wine, princes mysteriously disappear from Towers and Richard III, becomes England’s last ever Plantagenet king. Through this carnage emerges a family that will define English history: The Tudors. In a freezing Welsh castle, a thirteen-year-old Margaret Beaufort delivers a son she will spend decades manoeuvring towards the throne. Henry Tudor's claim is thin. His exile is long. His invasion, when it finally comes, is a bet against every reasonable odds.

THIS IS HISTORY — A DYNASTY TO DIE FOR Season 10, Episode 6: The Prophecy Henry VI has been having apparitions. The not-completely-there king isn’t someone you’d associate with clarity, but in 1470, he sees something with absolute focus. After being presented with his 13-year-old namesake, Henry Tudor, he tells everyone gathered at Westminster Palace that the young Henry is ‘the one’. While his mother, Margaret Beaufort’s thrilled, there is a slight hitch to Henry’s apparition. There’s still an exiled Edward IV on the loose, and he’s about to launch an assault on the coalition that ejected him from the throne at the Battle of Barnet. It’s going to be open season on everyone in the Lancastrian royal court. Warwick the Kingmaker doesn’t know what’s about to hit him. – 00:00 Arrival at Westminster 00:11 Margaret Beaufort’s Return 02:36 A Chilling Prophecy 04:14 Get Your Bonus Episode 04:52 Eugene Sue’s Lessons 06:07 Plantagenet Chaos: A Recap 06:18 Edward IV Wants Payback 07:46 Edward Lands at Ravenspur 09:02 Standoff at Coventry 10:46 George Duke of Clarence Turns 11:41 London Welcomes Edward 12:03 Henry VI’s In Jail… Again 12:35 Edward’s Reunion with Elizabeth Woodville 13:06 Operation Kill Warwick 14:07 Two Kings, One Army 15:00 The Battle of Barnet 20:04 The Battle of Tewkesbury 22:11 Henry VI's Last Rites 24:41 The Tudors Flee Wales 26:21 Exile and Survival 26:55 What’s On Next Episode – As always, Dan’s royal favourites can chime in anytime on the royal court on Patreon at patreon.com/thisishistory.
