Season 10 — Edward IV to Henry Tudor | A Dynasty to Die For

If you want to delve deeper into the history behind each episode, subscribe and receive bonus episodes — ad free — over on https://www.patreon.com/c/thisishistory/membership -- This is a story of three brothers, one crown, and not an ounce of loyalty between them. It’s the beginning of the end for England's most storied royal dynasty, the Plantagenets. Dan Jones brings you the story of the Yorkist King, Edward IV – tall, golden, ferocious – a young king who wins his throne on the battlefield and then destabilises it in the bedroom. His secret marriage to Elizabeth Woodville, a Lancastrian widow of minor nobility, detonates the political order. The old guard revolts. The Earl of Warwick aka the Kingmaker, emerges as a lethal enemy. What follows is a sequence of betrayals so baroque they border on the operatic. Alliances invert overnight as Warwick makes daring political moves. Kings drown in malmsey wine, princes mysteriously disappear from Towers and Richard III, becomes England’s last ever Plantagenet king. Through this carnage emerges a family that will define English history: The Tudors. In a freezing Welsh castle, a thirteen-year-old Margaret Beaufort delivers a son she will spend decades manoeuvring towards the throne. Henry Tudor's claim is thin. His exile is long. His invasion, when it finally comes, is a bet against every reasonable odds.

*THIS IS HISTORY — A DYNASTY TO DIE FOR* *Season 10, Episode 12: To Bosworth* Richard III’s son and heir, Edward of Middleham, dies unexpectedly. Then tragedy strikes twice: his wife Queen Anne dies, too. Richard, who ruthlessly diverted the line of succession away from his nephews, now has to contend with a dynastic line reset to zero. His solution? Incest. His niece, Elizabeth of York — daughter of late King Edward IV — is being pitched as England’s new Queen. But thrusting incest onto an increasingly agitated kingdom isn’t exactly what the people want. It’s fertile ground for other nobles who have any claim to the throne, like Henry Tudor. And so, he — along with Richard’s ever-growing list of enemies — descend on England. – 00:00 Nightmare Before Dawn 02:50 Henry The Bug 03:35 The Wars Of Roses Casino 04:16 Episode 12 Introduction 04:35 End Of Plantagenets 06:40 Back To 1484 07:13 Tragedy Strikes 08:58 Richard III With No Heir 10:21 The Brittany Deal 11:06 Jasper Tudor Sounds The Alarm 11:25 France Backs Henry Tudor 13:32 Richard’s Incest Play 14:50 Elizabeth Of York As Pawn 16:46 Council Warns Of Rebellion 18:15 Richard Tormented 19:12 French Funds And Ships 19:47 Henry’s Landing At Milford Haven 21:33 Richard Hears The News 22:15 The Stanley Problem 24:00 Bosworth Begins 27:09 End Of War Or Life 27:29 Henry Proclaimed King 28:04 Bye Bye Plantagenets 29:06 Royal Favourites Callout – As always, Dan’s royal favourites can chime in anytime on the royal court on Patreon at patreon.com/thisishistory.
