The jury is out as far as I'm concerned as to whether or not I need to use manual puppetry with this rig due to the lack of eye and mouth sprites I included with the build for this character, but I can see it being a useful tool for other rigs. Only downside is that it takes longer than the mouse operated "real time" method I've been using up to now.
